The Mirror Maze

Supportive Statements

The mentor guided Robin to a mirror that reflected a balanced image. "This is how others see you," the mentor explained. "Not perfect, but whole and capable. Can you see the potential within you?"

Robin gazed at the reflection, feeling a mixture of emotions. The mentor's words resonated deeply, reminding them that their self-image had been skewed by self-doubt and external pressures.

"To cultivate a healthier self-perception," the mentor continued, "you must learn to see yourself with compassion and acceptance. Let's start with a few simple techniques."

The mentor handed Robin a notebook and a pen. "First, practice self-compassion by writing down kind and supportive statements about yourself. When you catch yourself thinking negatively, challenge those thoughts by writing something positive. For example, if you think 'I always mess up,' counter it with 'I am learning and growing with each experience.'"

Robin sat down and began to write. Initially, their mind resisted, but they persevered. "I am kind and caring," they wrote, feeling a bit awkward. Then, "I have overcome challenges before." As they continued, the statements started to feel more genuine. A sense of warmth and kindness towards themselves slowly emerged.
