Chapter 1: The Floating City of Aethra

The Tea House Encounter

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of lavender and gold, Mira’s feet carried her to a quieter part of the city. Here, on the edge of Aethra, she found a small tea house, nestled between two graceful weeping willows. The sign above the door read: "The Gentle Leaf."

Curious and eager for respite, she pushed the door open and was greeted by the warm aroma of brewing herbs and the soft murmur of distant conversations. Inside, the walls were lined with shelves of teapots in every shape and size imaginable, and in the corner sat a man with a serene expression and a cup in hand.

He looked up as she entered, his eyes twinkling with a kind of mischief. “Ah, a new face,” he said with a smile that seemed to crinkle every corner of his eyes. “Come, sit. You look like you’ve had a day of it.”

Mira hesitated, then nodded, grateful for the warmth in his voice. She took a seat across from him and introduced herself. “Mira,” she said. “I’m new here… and I’m afraid I’m not making the best impression.”

The man chuckled softly. “I’m Thaddeus,” he replied. “Retired etiquette master, at your service. And don’t worry, my dear. Aethra is a city that thrives on silent rules, but it’s also a place where one must learn to set boundaries.”
