The Song of the Caravan
A young girl with the gift of hearing unspoken thoughts strives to transform her caravan's despair into a harmonious melody of gratitude and empathy amid the challenges of a harsh desert journey.
Unsung Heroes of the Caravan
The Silent Strength of Farida
The next day, as the caravan resumed its journey, Lila decided to observe more closely. She watched as each member of the caravan performed their duties—packing the tents, tending to the camels, distributing what little water they had. Each person had a role, a purpose. And yet, she realized, not everyone’s efforts were equally recognized.
She noticed Farida, a woman who always walked near the back of the caravan. Farida was strong and quiet, rarely speaking unless spoken to. She carried a large pot of water on her back, making sure that everyone had enough to drink during the long, hot days. Lila had heard whispers about Farida, that she was once a warrior in a distant land, but now she served the caravan with the same quiet dedication.
Curious, Lila approached Farida as she walked. “Aunt Farida,” she asked, “why do you always carry the water? It must be very heavy.”
Farida glanced down at Lila, her expression unreadable. “It is heavy,” she agreed, her voice low and even. “But it is necessary. We all have our burdens to bear.”
Lila nodded, feeling the echo of Farida’s quiet strength, but also a hint of weariness beneath it. “You help us all,” she said softly. “Without you, we would be thirsty and tired. Thank you for carrying the water.”
Farida seemed taken aback by the simple words of gratitude. “You’re welcome, little one,” she said after a moment, a hint of a smile softening her stern face. “It is my duty. But… thank you.”
As Lila walked away, she could feel the echoes in her mind shift again. Farida’s strength was like a deep, steady drumbeat, grounding and stabilizing. But it was also heavy, and sometimes, she felt the weight of it. Lila realized that even those who seemed the strongest needed acknowledgment and support.
